A Reflection For Treat-Givers | Halloween 2023

Today is October 31st, known by many as Halloween, and there is a lot we can talk about regarding Halloween.

But right now, I’m thinking about something I rarely hear people talk about, and that is how does Halloween affect the treat-giver.

So for all of you who will be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters tonight, especially if you’re a Christian, I invite you to join me in contemplating this topic.

A big issue when it comes to Halloween, is that of identity proclamation.

One of the most important phrases in the Bible is the “I am…” statement. Jesus says it many times. “I am the resurrection and the life”, “I am the light of the world”, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” and so on.

On Halloween, you put on a costume, and proclaim, “I am…”, whatever you’ve decided to get dressed up as.

You are making a statement about your identity, about who you are.

Part of the power of words is that you cannot take that back.

That is out there now.

And when you claim and acclaim an identity that is not your own, you attract evil spirits, demonic forces, to you.

But, what if you’re not getting dressed up, what if you’re not giving demonic spirits access to you through putting on costumes?

What if you’re just giving candy to the sweet innocent children who are having fun trick-or-treating?

Well, what does trick-or-treating really mean?

“Trick-or-treat” is a subtle way of saying, “If you give me a treat, I won’t perform a trick on you.”

Now a trick is a deception, anything from playful mischief to intense maliciousness.

So is it just playful mischief?

Many would be inclined to say yes, and in the eyes of the children and their parents, it is, but we’re talking about spiritual warfare here, and what’s at stake, is your soul.

So no, it’s not just playful mischief.

Now remember, deception is the weapon of the enemy, and to be spiritually victorious is to be rooted in truth.

So let’s find the truth and see who would be playing this trick?

A child comes to your door, and says “Trick-or-treat.”

You say, “Oh hello! Who are you?”

Well, it’s Halloween, so the child isn’t going to respond with their Christian name or their first name, such as Matthew.

They say what they have dressed up as, this new identity that they have taken on for the evening, so it’s another spirit that is there with Matthew.

So this other spirit comes to your door, who has plagued Matthew, and through him tells you, that if you don’t give them a treat, they will play a trick on you.

And if you’re thinking this is ridiculous, this wouldn’t happen with a child, remember who you’re dealing with.

The enemy doesn’t care about the well-being of the child, he’s not going to overlook him, especially on this day of Halloween.

The weapon of the enemy is deception, and children are the perfect tool to deceive with.

Think how easily we let our guard down with children.

Now if a demonic spirit were to come and reveal itself to you, or to a group of people, and say, “Worship me by providing me with an offering, or I will inflict misery upon you”, what would be the correct thing to do?

It would be to turn to God, to call upon Him, to trust in Him, to turn to Him for protection, and repel the demon in His name.

If you decided to listen to the spirit and provide an offering to appease them, that would be in direct violation of your faith.

You would be taking part in this demonic ritual.

It would be to betray God.

Back to trick-or-treating…

A spirit comes to your door, and through a child, tells you, that if you don’t give them a treat, they will play a trick on you.

And now to appease the spirit, you have given them a treat.

Well then you have turned away from God, and aligned with this spirit.

You have taken part in this ritual.

Most likely without even thinking of it.

Deceived by the simplicity, by the masking of the situation through the joy and innocence that you see.

And to be clear, I am in no way saying this is the fault of the children, or that one should treat children on Halloween with anything less than complete love and respect.

This has all happened right in front of our eyes, with everything in plain sight, and consent given by all parties every step of the way.

And you may not think it’s that simple, but it is.

Most people that are aligned with the demonic, who are involved in the occult, witchcraft, rituals, energy, do not know that they are aligning with evil, with Satan.

Many believe they are doing good, and want to be doing good.

The may even see what appear to be positive results.

But if you’re not worshipping the creator of creation, then you’re worshipping something else, regardless the name you slap on it, whether it be the universe, or worse, gaia, water, trees, and other elements and things of the earth.

If God gave us dominion over the earth, how can we turn around and decide to worship the things of the earth.

So if you are called to glorify God, to do everything in His name, take a look at what you’re doing.

Is what you’re doing on Halloween for God or against God?

You need to reflect upon what you say you believe, and compare that with what you really believe, and if your actions really reflect that? Not only for Halloween, but especially on Halloween because of how much it is designed to not be for God.

Based on that, do you really think it’s possible to have a middle-of-the-road solution?

If you’re now thinking of opening your door to trick-or-treaters and not give them candy, would you be able to stomach the look on the children’s faces?

Is there something else you could do for them? In, or out, of that situation.

Should you do something completely different than trick-or-treating altogether?

Whatever you decide to do, don’t do any part of it blindly.

Don’t assume that there are no other powers at play, and especially don’t assume that you can just take part without being affected.

And most importantly, on this day when everyone is talking about evil and demonic forces, even in this post, don’t lose sight of the Almighty power of God.

There is no reason for you to fear. If you believe in God, and you have God on your side, then there is nothing for you to ever fear.

And don’t forget the power your prayers can have on this day.

Pray for the children.

Pray for their safety and protection, that people in the streets with ill-intentions will be turned away from them, that every treat giver they encounter only has good intentions, and that they don’t eat the Halloween candy.

Pray for the minds of their parents to be enlightened, that they guide the children the right way.

Pray for the schools, the community, protection from the media, and so on.

Strive to live a righteous life, and be a model for those around you in all that you do.

Thank you for taking the time to be here with me today, and God bless you.
